Napoleon’s feint against the Allies right flank, was to turn into a deadly battle for the chateau of Hougoumont, involving the very troops that the French would later have needed, if they were to break the Allied centre.
Napoleon’s brother, Jerome, was to escalate the action into a bloodbath, which would see, not only his infantry division (6th) but also much of 2nd corps, dragged into the fighting for the chateau.
